140 Proof is an intelligent content-recommender and ad service for social apps and sites. Our flagship product and primary revenue generator is a high-volume REST API serving hundreds of requests per second to apps and sites on iOS, Android, OS X, Firefox, Chrome, and Windows. 140 Proof is proud that our APIs form the core revenue stream for popular social stream apps like UberTwitter, Echofon, and TweetCaster. We work with NodeJS, Rails, AngularJS, D3.js, Neo4J, Redis, and dozens of APIs on a daily basis.

We're looking for creative software engineers who have imagination and opinions, and who love algorithms and large problems like predictive analytics, performant big data storage and analysis, natural language processing, machine learning, real-time bidding & more. We've raised over $4.5 million in venture capital to develop algorithms to infer a person’s interests based on publicly available Interest Graph. We partner with application developers to deliver relevant, real-time ads that help them make money.

We contribute to key open source projects like Rails, Unicorn, the Twitter gem, and various NodeJS components tools

140 Proof and its patent-pending interest graph targeting algorithm are backed by Founders Fund, BlueRun Ventures, and SV Angel, the investors behind Facebook, PayPal, and Twitter.

Our customers include hundreds of market innovators like FedEx, Google, CBS Sports, Infiniti, Groupon, Best Buy, and over 2,000 startups and small businesses.

What you'll do: 140 Proof generates lots of data. From log files, ad delivery and performance data, and our huge collection of social graph data, we need solid innovation in the way we collect, store, and process big data for analysis. In this position, you'll be working closely with DevOps and with engineers across various projects to build data storage and processing infrastructure that's as efficient and re-usable as possible.

What we're looking for:

You should build because you can't resist building, not for a paycheck or a deadline
Proficiency programming in either NodeJS or Ruby, a love of programming and doing things at scale
A college degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. Bottom line: this is not an entry-level position
Ingenuity, creativity, and relentlessness - no hand-holding required
Experience building robust web apps (prior start-up experience or open source projects)
An understanding of the pace of a start-up (and the excitement to jump into it)
Working knowledge of networked application operations and at-scale web hosting
Ability to work from our San Francisco offices
The number of years of professional experience you have isn’t important to us, but you should have some experience as a "lead" engineer on a team of any size
You should be ready to make this startup the primary focus of your life (so put down the startup ideas and contract work)
