140 Proof Announces

Check-In Targeting for Social Ad Campaigns

Media Planners for Franchise Brands and Large Events Get a Location Targeting Boost

Today 140 Proof announced the launch of Social Check-In Targeting for its premium social ad campaigns, allowing brand advertisers to target their ads to users who use social sites to publicly "Check In" to venues and locations. 140 Proof debuted the technology for an IBM campaign promoting the brand's sponsorship of the U.S. Open, targeting attendees at the popular tennis championship.

"With the growing mobility of the social audience, marketers can no longer rely on people to be sitting at their desktop computers when they see brand messages in social," says Jon Elvekrog, 140 Proof CEO. "Standard geo-targeting no longer applies. The most valuable audiences are on the move, and the best technology adapts to the audience."

Social Check-In Targeting helps advertisers reach people anywhere they are. When users across the 140 Proof network publicly share their location by checking in, 140 Proof will deliver a targeted brand message to that person. "Social Check-In Targeting is a natural fit for 140 Proof's social ads, said Jason Bond Pratt, Director of Engineering for 140 Proof. "It goes hand-in-hand with Interest Graph Targeting to reach the right people at the right time."

Social Check-In Targeting works not only for large events like the U.S. Open, Olympics, and SXSW, but it also works for brands who have many geographic locations, like CPG retailers and quick-serve restaurants. A national breakfast chain could use Social Check-In Targeting to reach everyone who had checked into a competing store recently to alert them to a special "free coffee" offer.

Getting started with Social Check-In Targeting is easy. Any media planner can specify a location or set of locations for 140 Proof to target. Then, when a social user checks in, 140 Proof will show them the brand's ad. Other forms of targeting can be layered on for even greater specificity.
